Sharing is caring : The name is Sabily

sabily

Excerpt from the official website

"Sabily is a free, open source operating system designed by and for Muslims. It is based on the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution which is a free, efficient and secure operating system. Unlike Microsoft Windows and other proprietary systems, Linux is publicly open and extendible by contributors.

Because Sabily is free, already includes all software you need in your everyday tasks, and is customized specifically for Muslims. And even if you didn't buy Windows, you should not use pirated copies because then you are still supporting Microsoft by adding to the impression it's the only OS available.

Sabily includes a set of packages that customizes the Ubuntu distro; Ubuntu is easy to use for a novice user, with the most-used Office, Internet, Graphics and Video applications already installed. With Sabily, Muslim users have “out of the box” Islamic software and tools installed as well. Sabily includes Islamic software (prayer times tool, Quran study tool, Hijri calendar etc.) and has a custom design. Sabily comes with out of the box educational software, codecs for the most used media formats and has better support for Arabic language."

Sabily comes in three versions which are Small Version, Full Version and Ultimate Version.

Small version comes with a bunch of islamic related software such as islamic prayer times application, Quranic study tools, Islamic Calendars etc. etc..

For beginners or novice Linux users, I suggest you download at least the Full Version if not the Ultimate Version because they are pre-installed with multimedia codecs including java and flash player for you to be able to  watch youtube videos, other videos codecs as well as playing games in Facebook. Otherwise , if you download the small version, you're going to have to install all those multimedia codecs yourselves and its not that easy for beginners.

The full version should be sufficient to get you going with your everyday life computing which mainly consist on Internet surfing, YouTubing and Facebooking as well as documentation works in the pre-installed Open Office suite. Basically .... you don't need to install additional software ... it has everything a normal pc needs.

The Ultimate Version comes with an offline Quran recitations provided by www.versebyversequran.com. How about it?

You can choose to install it in your current Windows Operating System, or dual booting it with your existing Windows or simply use it as Live-DVD  or Live-USB without even changing anything in your Windows System.

It is just that flexible and further more ... it has a software called "Nanny" which is a parental control system .... it's perfect for family use in preventing our children from accessing bad Internet influences ... if you know what I mean lah hehehe

Have a Merry, Happy, Kinilau Christmas!!

The word "Christian" basically means  "The Follower of Christ". To elaborate more, Christians are people who accepts Jesus as the Messiah/Christ and who follow the teachings of Jesus. Some Christians may argue that Muslims are the Antichrist ...but on the contrary, Muslims are the exact opposite of that. If Christian means "those who accept Jesus as the Messiah/Christ and follow the teaching of Christ", then in that case Muslims can also be considered as Christians.

Why? Because whatever was taught by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to the Muslims regarding God and how to worship Him are the exact same teachings that of Jesus'.

In the Quran, Jesus is known as "Isa Al-Masih" which literally means "Jesus The Messiah" which also means "Jesus Christ". I hope that will straightens the fact that Muslim are not the Antichrist.

Before I end this .... i leave you guys with quotes taken from the Quran regarding Jesus Christ.

[Quran Chapter 19]

19:16 And make mention of Mary in the Scripture, when she had withdrawn from her people to a chamber looking East,

19:17 And had chosen seclusion from them. Then We sent unto her Our Spirit and it assumed for her the likeness of a perfect man.

19.18 She said: Lo! I seek refuge in the Beneficent One from thee, if thou art God-fearing.

19:19 He said: “Nay, I am only a messenger from thy Lord, (to announce) to thee the gift of a holy son.”

19:20 She said: “How shall I have a son, seeing that no man has touched me, and I am not unchaste?”

19:21 He said: “So (it will be): Thy Lord saith, ‘that is easy for Me: and (We wish) to appoint him as a Sign unto men and a Mercy from Us’:It is a matter (so) decreed.”

19:22 So she conceived him, and she retired with him to a remote place.

19:27 At length she brought the (babe) to her people, carrying him (in her arms). They said: “O Mary! truly an amazing thing hast thou brought!”

19:30 He said: “I am indeed a servant of Allah: He hath given me revelation and made me a prophet.”

19:31 “And He hath made me blessed wheresoever I be, and hath enjoined on me Prayer and Charity as long as I live.”

19:32 “(He) hath made me kind to my mother, and not overbearing or miserable.”

19:33 “So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again)”!

19:34 Such (was) Jesus the son of Mary: (it is) a statement of truth, about which they (vainly) dispute.

Shalom / Salam ... may peace be unto you, and a happy, merry, kinilau Christmas.

Cloud Antivirus : The new frontier of computer virus prevention.

I was searching the net trying to find some good free antivirus and came across this particular antivirus. What makes a cloud antivirus different from a conventional antivirus?

In conventional antivirus, the virus database is stored in your computer. As time goes by, lots and lots virus data will be downloaded to your computer and making it bulky sort of speak. This will cause your computer's resources. Each and every antivirus users will download virus patterns database and stores the same database in every PC which makes it redundant. Not all PC's experiences the same virus attack hence information on new viruses will take time to be known on the other side of the globe.

Cloud antivirus on the other hand will only install the client on your PC. The virus database are stored in an antivirus server and shared all around the globe. That means no more downloading virus pattern update. whenever there is a new virus threat, the information will straight away received by the server which relays it to the other users around the globe which uses the same client at the first user.

Currently there are 3 known free cloud antivirus in the market.

Never heard of this one but it claims a real-time prevention and advanced protection for your PC. Permanently free and steady antivirus software. Protection against attacks from worms, Trojans, pyware, malware and unnamed viruses. Automatic scan or demanded scans, which quickly cleans infected data Defends E-mail & MSN clients, and monitors webpages while you are surfing the Internet.

This one is a relatively known antivirus company. It has got great reviews by reputed tech blog. But from what I read in the net, some user experience high resource usage with this antivirus. But its has high detection rate.

Among all the cloud antivirus featured in this article Immunet, according to bloggers, is the best. Unlike the others, it is not a resource hog and it does most of the settings by itself automatically so people who are new to computers need not worry much.

Some of them have pro or plus versions which are not free but have additional features and functions.

I personally use Immunet a relatively unknown antivirus and from what i read from the net it runs in the most minimal resource and it wont hog your system. But most of all ... it can be used in conjunction with most of your favorite conventional antivirus for that added protection. I use Immunet Protect with my trusty Eset Smart Security.

Laptop always shows "On AC Power" even when on battery? Here's one solution you can try.

Is your laptop behaving like a desktop computer? Does it show it's on AC power all the time even when you are on battery power?

If you happen to answer "yes" then ... you have the same problem as mine. The most annoying part is when you forget to turn on the power and you are running on battery but it says "on AC power" ... then all of a sudden .... without any warnings and notifications ... your laptop just goes blank .... completely shuts down without the sequence. All your unsaved work goes with it.

Been searching for quite a while on how to fix this but lots of the time I ran into a dead end. you'd be surprised of how many people have the same problem.

In my case, it seems that I'm lacking a certain driver in my system which handles the AC/DC power monitoring.

You can try searching for the solution on your own but I gotta tell you ... its not easy ... fortunately though ... I'm kind enough to share this with you so you don't have to search any further hahaha...

But first let me just credit the person who helped us .. this person's name supposedly is Davey with a nickname dOGHAIR..

LIMITATION: This method is for Windows XP only ... I havent tried on Windows Vista nor Windows 7.
DISCLAIMER: This method is pretty harmless but that been said, use this method AT YOUR OWN RISK.

You can download a zipped file which contains a batch file that will repair the missing battery icon issue. All you gotta do is extract the file then go to the extracted folder and double-click the "install.bat" file. Keep on pressing "enter' until the whole thing is finished.

When it's done .. right-click "My Computer" then click "Manage". Select "Device Manager" under the "Computer Management (Local)" tree.

Make sure you have these two items ... under "Batteries" on the right side of the panel.
1.  Microsoft AC Adapter
2.  Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery

* please refer to the picture

Make sure the battery icon has no question mark or exclamation mark. If for some reasons it has ... restart you laptop. When that doesn't fix the problem, uninstall them by right-clicking them and choosing "Uninstall". Then repeat the "Install.bat" process.

The next step is to enable the icon in the taskbar .... go to "Start > Run" and keyin "powercfg.cpl" .... click on the "Advance" tab and "check" the "Always show icon on taskbar"

You should also have a "Power Meter" tab next to "Advance" tab ... "check" the "Show details for each battery" ... you should see battery icon there. When you unplug the AC power, you should see the AC plug icon turns into a battery icon.

That's just about it ... hope it solves your problem.

My Family Tree

Hi guys,
Its been quite a while since I updated my last post .... Now I'm back hehehe ...

Lately I've been in contact with my relatives in Philippines. They are requesting me to create a family tree that can be accessed online by other family members and can add it up or merge it up with their own family tree.

My initial plan was to host a website especially for my family in other words, family website. But then I thought there must be a cheaper way .... one that doesn't require you to fork up cash to achieve such objective. Something like this blogspot ... its free and you can post as much as you like.

So I went googling here and there and came across quite a number of websites that offer free family tree hosting. Unfortunately though .... most of these websites has limitations such as, limited number of pictures you can upload, and limited number of family members that you can add and so on. You need to buy a pro version of it in order to get rid of the limitations.

Luckily, I came across this magnificent website that so far has no limitations like I just mentioned. Well, there are actually but its quite minimal and the pro-version features which are not in the free-version are not something I really need the most. As long as I can upload any number of pictures and add family members as much as I want, its cool with me.

As of now I am the unofficial family historian and the custodian of the Datu Amirhussin Family Tree hehehe

I figured that I share with you so that you can make your own family tree and perhaps we can merge our family tree and be surprised that we are related hehehe.

Celcom = Sialcom = Totally Sucks!!!!

Good Day,

Before i begin, let me tell you why I'm a Celcom customer... I work in a rural area ... far far away from the big city. I live near a state border. Although the cellphone coverage is okay, the broadband coverage however is limited to only Celcom ... so I have no choice but to be a Celcom customer if i were to go online which I think I can't live without...

Anyway, I'm subscribing to two Celcom services ... one is a Celcom Broadband Postpaid, and the other is Celcom Blue Prepaid.... now the postpaid one is strictly for Internet, you can't make a phone call and the prepaid one is the normal SIM which you can make calls just like your normal prepaid SIM  ... however both of them i used as my means to connect to the Internet.

As you all know and for those who don't know, Celcom has a RM98 C-Broadband Advance which boast of speed up to 3.6Mbps. However it has a bandwidth limit up to 5GB of data transfer. Now whenever you exceed the limit of 5GB, they will un-throttle your speed from up to 3.6Mbps to just a mere not more than 128Kbps which is very very slow and you can't even watch your favorite YouTube clip on it.

They used to have no solution for this hence why I bought a Celcom Blue Prepaid as my substitute to the Celcom Postpaid Package. You can always use the prepaid to subscribe a RM20/Week Unlimited Broadband with a speed of up to 512Kbps.

Later on they have this service where you can buy additional bandwidth of 5GB for RM20. So i figured, why not just purchase an additional 5GB with the speed of up to 3.6Mbps instead of subscribing a RM20/Week unlimited with a speed of up to 512Kbps ...

So it became my norm coz I'm a heavy internet user so i always exceed the bandwidth limit. Overtime, I rarely use my Celcom Prepaid coz of the "purchase additional bandwidth" service.

Up until today, I've exceeded my bandwidth once again and called the Celcom customer service for purchasing additional 5GB bandwidth ... to my surprise, the Celcom staff told me that they changed the cost of a 5GB to RM50. Its not RM20 anymore its RM50!!!! Taken aback, i canceled my purchase because i think its outrageous!!!!

So I'm back to my old norm which is, buying RM20 reload to my Prepaid and subscribe to the RM20/Week. Then while i was happily surfing the net, Celcom sent me an SMS which sounds like this ...

RM0> Langganan lagu anda tlh berjaya diperbaharui, RM1 telah dicaj ke akaun anda. Langganan lagu ini akan diperbaharui stp minggu. Tertakluk terma & syarat

Celcom call it "Call Me Ring Tone" .... The thing is I NEVER SUBSCRIBED TO ANY "CALL ME FUCKING RING TONE"!!!!!! ... So i called Celcom services AGAIN and inquired about this. It turned out that the subscription started on June and now its end of September. Imagine the horrror!!!! I've been ripped off buy Celcom within that time period RM1 a week without me even knowing it. I know if you calculate it, its not that much perhaps thats what most of you people think. Yeah it probably not that much but remember ... i wasn't the only one who was being ripped off. I bet all Celcom subscriber has been ripped off too ... they just don't know it yet or haven't realized it yet.

The Celcom personnel explains that it was a promo. Initially it was free then they sent SMS saying that the promo period is finished and they will start charging RM1/Week ... since I didn't replied a "NO" to the SMS, they started suka suka, freely deduct RM1 from my credit. What a FUCKING LOAD OF BULLSHIT!!!!!

Firstly, you should never impose extra ordinary charges anyone without one's knowledge and consent!!!! The SMS suppose to be an "if you don't reply YES then the subscription will be stopped". I don't use my prepaid SIM card on the phone ... how was i suppose to know and receive your fucking SMS?!!!  Have you ever think of that??!!!

But alas!!! ..... The are no wireless Internet Service Provider In my place except for this thief ... like it or not i have to subscribe to their services .... but if i ever have any other option such as DiGi or Maxis, I'd pick one of them before I ever think about using Celcom. Sial punya Celcom.... they should change their logo into this!

Sempurna

I made this clip a while ago. Thought i would share it with you guys cause a friend of mine had already blogged about it, so i think its only obvious that i too should blog about my own work .... am i right?

I sort of miss my loved ones and i have nothing to do. Missing them made me realized that as imperfect as they are, they are perfect in my eyes ... and that's what really count. Hence the title of this clip "Sempurna" and i used the song from Andra & The Backbone - Sempurna for this clip. Credits goes to the owner of the song and this clip is not used to gain any profits at all. If there's anything, this clip only promotes the song without gaining any profits.

But what ever it is ... here is the song....

Playing Old arcade Games on your PC

I remember when i was little ... i'm one of those kids who are fascinated with any electronic games. I also recall telling my teacher when ask what my hobby was and my answer was playing electronic games. In those days we call it "Permainan Elektronic" hahaha sounds kinda lame today hehehe...

Anyway ....in those days when computers are scarce, between 1980s till early 1990s, my period of childhood, kids in those days frequently visits the "Amusement Center" or "Arcade Games Center". In fact it was very popular that kids sometimes skip from school just to be able to hang out in those places. I remember at one time Police  were ordered to raid these kinda places and detain kids who skipped from schools. Whenever there are policemen, kids will storm out the door of the arcade center. In those days, that kind of place is like an illegal gambling house ... hahaha.

Games like Galaga, Contra, 1940s Series, Double Dragons, Street Fighter (used to be my favorite) are very popular. In the early 90s, games like Raiden, Tekken, The King of Fighters Series (my favorite to this day) are very popular.

With the advance of computer technology, those kinda games has become obsolete in a way. Newer high end game consoles dominates the market. 3D games are the "in thing". But guys like me who gets dizzy when playing 3D games ... especially 1st person shooter 3D games, cannot keep abreast with the games the market has to offer.

Have you ever wonder what happened to all those old arcade games? Have you ever thought that would it be nice if you can play that game again .. for old time sake? Sadly they don't have those kinda games in the arcade center nowadays. But thanks to hardcore old arcade games fans, they came up with a new approach to let us ... the old school arcade gamers to reminisce the good 'ol day.

Enter MAME which stand for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. Basically this software is an emulator which emulates a real arcade machine like the above picture. And to top that, it also plays multiple arcade games!!! There are two versions of MAME. There is the command line version and the user interface version. For beginners, it is advisable to download the Graphic User Interface version which you can get it from here

Now once we downloaded the emulator, we can now download the games that we want. It comes in a ROM format. There are numerous websites that offer free ROM downloads. You can always google the key word "mame rom". My personal favorite site is Rom Hustler

In order to play a game, you need to extract the emulator into your harddisk. Then put the Rom file (in zip format) at the Rom directory inside your MAME directory. That how easy it is. Of course for Neo Geo Games, you need to download a NeoGeo Bios Rom which you can get in any rom sites out there.

Bare in mind though, that the games are copyrighted and it is not advisable to play the games without the owner's consent ... what i'm trying to say is ... play at your own risk ... i won't be held responsible for any copyright infringement ... capisce?

First time post

Well this is the first post i suppose ...
Most of my post would probably revolves around things that will interest me the most. Be sure to stay tune for software updates, probably a little about food, movies, songs and things that may catch my interest.

Looks like we're gonna have to see what comes next ..

Yours truly
DKDO
